WHAT IS GRS?

GRS stands for Global Recycled Standard, which is a standard which verifies the presence and amount of recycled material in fabrics and tracks the flow of raw materials from its source to the final product. It is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions. The GRS certificate only applies to fabrics that contain more than 50% recycled fibers. Nooteboom Textiles cares about the environment and actively participates in the initiative to give yarns a second life.

The goal of the Global Recycled Standard is to provide a trademark for customers, brands and consumers to recognize verified recycled products, to increase the use of recycled materials in products and to reduce the harm caused by its production to people and the environment. The standard wants to create a transparent market in which harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimized throughout the whole supply chain. Every year all companies in the supply chain are audited by a professional third-party certification body.

The GRS license number of Nooteboom Textiles is CU1000425.

WHAT ARE RECYCLED FABRICS MADE OF?

Recycled cotton is obtained by leftover yarns from production facilities or yarns which are re-generated from collected cloth. Recycled polyester is obtained by crushing and melting used plastic bottles, also known as rPet, and spinning it into a polyester fiber. The most common recycled yarns are cotton, polyester, and polyamide, but this number of fibers which can we recycled will definitely grow in the near future.

A SELECTION OF GRS CERTIFIED FABRICS

WHY SHOULD WE INVEST IN GRS CERTIFIED FABRICS?

Climate change becomes a more subject all over the world. Recycling is becoming the law, with participation requirements varying from place to place. Recycling products is one way to help combat climate change, because it requires less energy consumption than brand new yarns. The demand of recycled fabrics in the textile industry will increase the demand for used plastics, which could convince companies to collect more plastic from our oceans. Nooteboom Textiles already invested in recycled products and with your support we can really make a change. By investing in recycled fabrics you can also contribute to a more sustainable textile industry. Let’s take small steps together towards a better world!

DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR MY OWN GRS CERTIFICATION?

If you sell to consumers (B2C) you are not required to be certified yourself to sell the GRS certificated fabrics from Nooteboom Textiles as GRS certified. If you sell to companies (B2B) and you do not have your own GRS certificate, you are also allowed to sell the rolls and double folded pieces as GRS certified. However, you are not allowed to add official logo’s or stickers on your fabrics, garments or marketing tools like a sales hanger. If you re-sell the rolls or double folded pieces as you originally received including official logo’s, you do not need to remove the labels.
